Hardenberger's 50th Performance of Bridge
Håkan Hardenberger gave his 50th performance of Rolf Martinsson's trumpet concerto Bridge in a crowded Tonhalle Zürich on 28 January.
It was his cooperation with Håkan Hardenberger, which commenced in the late 1990s with the first performance of the trumpet concerto Bridge, that opened the doors for Rolf Martinsson to the international stage. This was an immediate success, and Hardenberger has since performed the work at major concert venues around the world. In Tonhalle Zurich Håkan Hardenberger gave his 50th performance of the concerto with the Tonhalle Orchester under the baton of Andris Nelsons. The concerto was received with great enthusiasm from audience and media alike.

Not surprisingly, this 50th live performance was also a success.

It is not only because of the title that the trumpet concerto Bridge by the Swede Rolf Martinsson goes well together with Bruckner’s Fourth. Also here there is a rumbling opening, also here the music intensifies to a witch’s ride, and also here the timbres are delicately blended. In addition to this there was the soloist, trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger, who left nothing to be desired in the way of virtuosity and colourfulness.
