The composer, musicologist, organist and radio producer Bengt Hambraeus was a central figure in contemporary music in Sweden. As a composer he was almost completely self-taught, and he constantly tried to develop new means of expression. During the 1950s he took part in the Darmstadt International Summer Courses and he was the first Swedish composer to write electro-acoustic music at the Cologne Studio (1955).
