“Mockfjärd Ballad” can be performed either by a string orchestra with soloinstrument and a contrabass as rhythm instrument or by a string quintet (3 violins, viola and violoncello) with soloinstrument and contrabass.
Drums are not necessarily required in any version but could be played·from B and C if soloists ad lib are available at the same time.
If possible, use trumpet as solo instrument. The parts for soloists ad lib could be performed by two players, with one playing from B and the other playing from C with the following cadenza. Piano is suitable as one of these solo instruments.
Solo parts in Bb and C are available.

To try to categorise the music by Nils Lindberg is virtually impossible. The well-known Swedish music critic Seth Karlsson once described him as a kind of musical knight, riding on the frontiers of music. He saw Nils as someone who resides in a musical borderland. As his coat-of-arms he bears the triangle. One corner represents jazz, one symphonic works and the third folk music.
