#2 Indifferent Fauna by Marie Sandell

In the autumn of 2022, Gehrmans Musikförlag and the Swedish Society of Composers launched a call for works by female and non-binary composers. Of the many pieces submitted, six are nominated by an external committee and will be published in 2022. #2, Indifferent Fauna, is an "Animal Suite" in five parts for mixed choir a cappella with a solo trio.

"A warm welcome to the Hen Collective. Here we accept all similar dissimilarities according to exact premises. Your application is processed by the Hen Board of Board of Directors of Hens, THE BOARD, which has prepared perfect guidelines for friction-free community. If your application is accepted, you have a natural place and guaranteed anonymity in Nobody. Our motto: We EMPHASIZE to Live Life in Wheel tracks for ourselves as well as for Everyone. Welcome with your application. We need you!"

This prologue by the composer herself gives a taste of both the poetry of Aase Berg in her collection of poems from 2011 (Indifferent Fauna/Liknöjd fauna), and of the music that Marie Sandell has created around Berg's texts. In the suite, hens set the tone. There is drama, manipulation, infiltration, choreographic instructions and lots of majors seconds in Sandell's intelligent interpretation.
